Anne is the Programme Director for Jewellery, Textiles and Materials at Central Saint Martins, UAL and has been over 20 years of creative textile education experience.

Her research is based around the socio-cultural context of textiles, particularly the area of Urban Fabric - exploring interdisciplinary textile-based approaches to respond to societal needs and co-create more empathetic communities. Her work aims to stimulate social innovation as well as pushing the boundaries of sustainable craft practices and material design. Recent projects such as Home and Belonging with Crisis Brent UK and Patterns of Perception investigate the possibilities of textile-led co-creation to enable intergenerational exchange as well as communicating personal narratives around personal health and wellbeing. Anne is currently working on a British Council funded project with the Jaipur Rug Foundation building leadership confidence in female weavers and exploring non-hierarchical methods of co-designing with artisans

Graziela holds a PhD in Design, with research focused on the topics of Entrepreneurship and/in Fashion Design, and has been a lecturer for over 10 years at the Lisbon School of Architecture’s Fashion Design Bachelor. Over the past few years, she has published scientific articles in academic journals, made presentations at conferences and provided training in fashion business acceleration programs. In parallel with her career as a teacher and researcher, she collaborates with ModaLisboa – Lisboa Fashion Week in the Special Projects Coordination, where she has been programming talks and pop-ups since 2017. In recent years, Graziela has also developed several initiatives to promote entrepreneurship, sustainability, social innovation, local consumption, among other urgent themes, shaped as campaigns, workshops and volunteer work.

Bernardo Providência, graduated in Communication Design from ESAD- Matosinhos, Master in Design and Marketing from Minho University and in Business Innovation and Technology Management from Girona University, Spain. Ph.D. from the University of Girona with the work " Methodology to design customized product based on the user-centered design", he is the author of several articles and scientific communications as well as Books and chapters of books in the fields of design.
He was a member of the school board and the scientific board of the School of Architecture, Art and Design, researcher at 2C2T/Minho University and GREP/ Girona University, and is currently a researcher at Lab2PT/ Minho University. In this context, he has participated, as a team member and coordinator, in several national and international research projects, as well as in the organizing committee of the CIMODE since 2012 and in the scientific committee of several conferences of design. He is currently coordinator of READE (Network for Advanced Studies in Design and Emotion).

Brooks Hagan is a professor at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) with a focus on integrating traditional and modern textile practices. He has taught Jacquard design and developed interdisciplinary courses such as Textiles Transforming into Furniture and Digital Sense. Hagan has collaborated with organizations like the RISD Museum and the Rhode Island Historical Preservation and Heritage Commission, as well as corporate partners like Fabricut, Inc. and KnollTextiles. He has organized international shows and served as the interim dean of fine arts. Hagan's work extends beyond academia, as he has collaborated with companies on textile collections and consulted for technology leaders like Apple, Inc. He has conducted research projects on visualization for textile design, supported by grants from the National Science Foundation. Hagan co-founded Computational Textiles, Inc., which launched the Weft platform for designing custom woven textiles. He is currently working on a patent-pending process for producing complex soft forms. Hagan also engages in fine art collaborations and explores the intersection of paper and textiles

Interior and equipment designer. In 2018, completed her PhD in Design with the theme “Design for the democratization of cultural consumption: The museum Shop”, at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Lisbon, where also developed the Advanced Studies in Design course.

She’s a member of the Centre for Research in Architecture, Urbanism and Design – CIAUD – of the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Lisbon and teacher at the Higher School of Education, Communication and Sports and at the Higher School of Technology and Management of the Polytechnic Institute of Guarda. Has presented several communications at international congresses and conferences in her research areas and in parallel develops projects of Interior Design and Equipment Design.

Graduated in Fashion Design at the Faculty of Architecture of the Technical University of Lisbon, Master in Design and Marketing at the School of Engineering at the University of Minho, with the thesis theme «The Portuguese Tapestry and its Production Techniques» and a PhD in Design at the Faculty of Architecture at the Technical University of Lisbon with the thesis theme "Sustainability in Clothing Design", has been teaching at the Faculty of Architecture since 2003 in the Degree and Master's Degree Course in Fashion Design in the subjects of Sustainability and Fashion, Technologies Fashion I-III, Fashion Design Materials I-III, Pattern Design I, Fashion Design I-IV, Fashion Atelier I-IV, Apparel Technology and optional Craftsmanship Techniques and Redesign. She has been the author and co-author of articles in her research area, where she addresses issues on sustainable fashion design methodologies, the processing and transformation of textile waste in valuation proposals, the analysis of fashion consumer behaviour, etc. Before dedicating herself to teaching, she also worked as a trainee designer at Camilo Pinto SA, following up on Peter Murray's menswear collections and the World Apart and Lightning Bolt womenswear collections. She later moved to the textile design area, becoming a senior designer at the Portuguese company Tricana SA, developing works in the textile weaving area, and collaborating with the marketing department to consolidate the company's corporate and external image. 

Cátia Rijo is a communication designer with a degree in Visual Design (2000) and a master’s in graphic design (2008), both from IADE —Faculty of Design, Technology, and Communication.
Dr. Rijo received a Post Doc. (2022) and a Ph.D. in Design both from the Faculty of Architecture from Lisbon University (2015).

Currently she is the Vice President Higher Education School of Lisbon (ESELx) from Lisbon Polytechnic and the coordinator of the Visual Arts and Technologies degree in the same institution, where broadly teaches in the Design field.

In 2016 she founded DesignLab4U, a laboratory agency where students can immerse in real context design projects under an internship regime, where she supervises several masters and bachelor students in the design field.
In 2022 she as coordinated an international project called “Design, experience, and identity: meeting spaces to design a livable city” that aims work on the issues of the sustainability cities through the development of an academic project in the disciplinary field of design that intends to contribute to a better experience in the city, as well as for a more sustainable development of the city, without losing sight of its identity that culminates with and exhibition and a book release (ISBN 978-989-8912-17-6).

Rijo is also Chair of the Image Research Network from Common Ground and a research member at CIAUD —Research Centre for Architecture, Urbanism and Design from the Faculty of Architecture of Lisbon University.

Elisabete Rolo is a communication design teacher and researcher at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Lisbon. She started her professional activity as a communication designer at B2 Atelier de Design (2002-2010) and developed projects in several design areas as a freelancer. She holds a PhD in Design from the University of Lisbon, Lisbon School of Architecture, with the thesis Olhar, jogo, espírito de serviço: Sebastião Rodrigues e o design gráfico em Portugal (2015). She is a permanent member of the Research Center for Architecture, Urbanism and Design (CIAUD, FA/ULisboa) and coordinates the research group Typo.Graphicæ: prática, teoria e história. The leading research and publication areas are editorial design, typography, visual identity, and communication design history and theory.

Gianni Montagna is PhD in Design by the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Lisbon since 2012, with a thesis on the application of smart systems to clothing, teaches Fashion Design at the first academic year of the Masters in Fashion Design and often teaches other disciplines at the same institution, as in the case of Accessory Design. In the textile development laboratory (D_TEX) of the Faculty of Architecture of Lisbon, he is responsible for the area of Textile Design and is responsible for the discipline of Laboratory III of the PhD in Design as well as professor of the subject of Textiles for the Architecture of the PhD program in Architecture of the same Faculty. He is the scientific coordinator of the International Congress on Textile Design "D_TEX _ Textile, Identity and Innovation" which aims to bring together the different scientific domains around the textile area.

­ Giovanni Maria Conti, Ph.D, Associate Professor, is currently the Coordinator of the Knitwear design Lab – Knitlab of the Fashion Design Degree at Politecnico di Milano.

Founder and Scientific Coordinator of the website/blog www.knitlab.org, he is expert collaborator of the Instituto Italo-Latino Americano – IILA in the Pymes Forum for cooperation projects on textile and fashion.

He is a member of the editorial board of “Lupetti. Editori di Comunicazione" and in 2020 he received the Honorable Mention at the XXVI Compasso d'Oro for the "DigiKnit" research. He is Director of the Master in Fashion Direction: Product Sustainability Management at MFI (Milano Fashion Institute Consortium) and member of LeNS - International Learning Network on Sustainability.

Helder Carvalho received his graduation in Electrotechnical and Computer Engineering in 1992 from the University of Porto. He concluded his MSc and PhD in Textile Engineering at the University of Minho in the years of 1998 and 2004, respectively. His current occupation is teacher and researcher at the University of Minho, where he has a position as Assistant Professor, at the Department of Textile Engineering. In the last years he has been developing work at various interfaces between Product Design and Engineering, especially Textile and Fashion Design. He is coordinator of the MSc course in Design and Marketing and has been part of the coordinating committee of the BSc course in Fashion Design and Marketing at the University of Minho since 2005. She participates in several research projects and is the leading Investigator in the MESURE 6 - Training – of the PRR Textile and Clothing_Bioeconomy Project BE@T. President of the Scientific Committee of the International Conference on Fashion and Design (CIMODE) and member of its organizing team since its foundation.

­I am an Assistant Researcher in History, based at the Landscape, Heritage and Territory Laboratory at the University of Minho (Braga, Portugal). I got my PhD in History in 2012 from the University of Porto (Portugal) and the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (France) with a thesis on the textile production in Portugal in the Late Middle Ages. Since then, I have been devoted to the study of social and economic history between the 13th and 16th centuries, namely textile and dress production and consumption, mercantile networks and trade in the Mediterranean, crafts activities and its regulations, as well as mercantile and urban accounting records and practices. The individual project that I am currently developing is entitled "Wor(l)ds of Cultural Diversity: Dress and Textiles in Portugal, 13th-15th centuries" (2020.02528.CEECIND) and aims at studying dress and textiles in medieval Portugal (early 13th century to late 15th century), applying the concepts of multiculturality and interculturality. I am former Co-PI of the collective project MedCrafts: "Crafts regulation in Portugal in the Late Middle Ages, 14th-15th centuries" (PTDC/HAR-HIS/31427/2017), that ran from 2018 to 2022 and I am Vice-leader of WG3 (Textile Terminologies) within COST Action 19131, “EuroWeb – Europe through Textiles Network for an integrated and interdisciplinary Humanities”.

Dr. Julianna Abel is a Benjamin Mayhugh Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Minnesota. Her research combines innovative design processes and advanced manufacturing techniques with material and structural modeling to lay the scientific foundation necessary for the rigorous design of multifunctional fabrics. She is exploring new uses for existing smart material fibers, developing new fibers with multifunctional properties, and manufacturing functional fabric actuators. Her approach of integrating smart material fibers directly into the fabric during manufacturing is an essential step toward creating truly multifunctional fabrics that enable new aerospace structures, medical devices, wearable technologies, and consumer products, as well as open the door to applications not yet imagined.

Madalena Pereira started his professional activity in 1989 in the Clothing and Textile Industry over 10 years. PhD in Textile Engineering at University of Beira Interior where has it been since 1990. She is a integrate member of Unit research in Design - UNIDCOM and collaboration in FibEnTech-UBI. Today is Vice President of Textiles Department.  His areas of research today are textile and clothing industry, fashion design product, sourcing and sustainability, digital technologies, and skills for higher education. Advisor in 50 Master and PhD thesis and author/co-author of about 60 papers. Member of the team who create Branding and Fashion Design Master, PhD in Fashion Design and a new bachelor’s in Technology and Sustainable Fashion Product. Participant of about 10 scientific committee of several international conferences with peer review. Responsible and member of about 10 research projects. Member of Portuguese Textile Cluster – SIG Sustainable BioCircular.

Margherita Tufarelli, PhD in Design, researcher at the University of Florence - DIDA Department of Architecture. She coordinates the activities of REI Research Laboratory. Her research interests concern the opportunities and impacts of digital transformation on design, production and communication processes in the textile and fashion sector. Among the most recent projects in which she has participated is Prato Phygital - creative synergies for competitiveness, which uses the materials contained in textile archives for the development of new digital experiences (financed by the MISE Ministero dello Sviluppo Economico in the framework of the funding call for competitive ideas for 5g and audiovisual) and E tex - The haptic Library, which aims at the development through experimentation of effective ways of using textile materials on digital media through the use of haptic visualization techniques. The project is funded by the European Commission under the WORTH Partnership Project II edition.

Margarida Gamito is a graduate in Communication Design, by IADE-U: Superior Institute of Visual Arts, Design and Marketing; MSc in Colour in Architecture by the Architecture Faculty − Lisbon Technical University; PhD in Design by the Architecture Faculty − Lisbon Technical University. Currently, she is a Post-Doctoral Student at the Lisbon School of Architecture – Universidade de Lisboa (FA-UL) and is included in the research set of CIAUD - Research Centre in Architecture, Urbanism and Design, Lisbon School of Architecture – Universidade de Lisboa.

She, also is a retired Teacher at IADE ─ Superior Institute of Visual Arts, Design and Marketing- Lisbon, Founder Member of APC – Portuguese Colour Association and actual President.

Since 2005 Margarida Gamito has participated, with communications, in several Conferences and Congresses in Portugal and abroad, with themes mainly related with Colour, Urban Environment, Wayshowing and Inclusivity. Simultaneously, she published several book chapters on the same themes.

Maria João Durão graduated from Lisbon Fine Arts School (FBAL-UL). She was awarded a PhD degree with a thesis on Colour and Space and a Post-doctoral Fellowship at University of Salford- Manchester. Professor at Lisbon School of Architecture UL since 2001, she founded, directed and lectured in world pioneer Master Degree Course (MPhil) "Colour in Architecture" (FAUTL); she founded and directs "Colour Lab-FA since 2004, supervising national and international master, doctoral and post-doctoral projects. She directs the “Research Group Colour and Light” -CIAUD/School of Architecture since 2016; founded and presided the Portuguese Colour Association and is its Honorary President. She is scientific Council member of Design Doctoral Degree Course (FAUL), Doctoral Course in Architecture lecturer (FAUL) and Masters in BES – Building for Sustainability (University Salford). Her art work has been exhibited since 1989 in England, France, Japan, and Portugal and belongs to public and private collections. Her publications range the areas of art, design, terrestrial  and aerospace architecture and she regularly presents her work at international conferences.

Graduated in Arts and Publicity / Propaganda, Master in Arts, Doctorate in Arts and Free-Teaching. She was a professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas in Visual Arts and Publicity-Propaganda courses. She has experience in the field of Arts, Design and Advertising, and works mainly on the following topics: art, design, community, sociology of art, fashion, art education, interdisciplinary and production. She is an effective Doctor Professor at the University of São Paulo, at the School of Arts, Sciences and Humanities (EACH-USP) in RDIDP in the Textile and Fashion Course, in the area of Design and Fashion and is a Member of ICOM - International Council of Museums / UNESCO , since 2000. Today she is also a visiting professor at the University of Lisbon (Portugal), at the Polytechnic Institute of Castelo Branco (Portugal) and a collaborating researcher at the Center for Research in Architecture, Urbanism and Design (CIAUD) at the University of Lisbon (Portugal), where he developed his Post-Doctorate.

Professor Ningtao Mao is the Chair of Fibre and Textile Technology and Director of Research and Innovation: Funding & Innovation, School of Design (formerly School of Textile Industries), University of Leeds. Ningtao obtained his PhD in Textile Technology in the University of Leeds in 2001 and his BSc and MSc in the Textile Engineering in Northwest Institute of Textile Science and Technology (NWITST) (now Xi’an Polytechnic University) in 1985 and 1988 respectively. He worked in NWITST and Heriot-Watt University before he returned to Leeds in 2003.

After receiving his PhD in Design Sciences at the Università Iuav di Venezia in 2019, where he collaborated in post-doc research activities and teaching in fashion degree courses, since 2023 he has been a researcher in fashion design at the Department of Architecture (DIDA) of the University of Florence. His research activity focuses on the futuring practices of fashion design in Italy, with a focus on innovative materials, production chains and the relationship between handmade and tech in a vision of human, social and environmental sustainability. He has been a visiting scholar at the University of Lisbon and regularly collaborates with international research groups.

Principal responsible for the creation & development and Director of UBI's Fashion Design Programmes (2000-19). President of Strategic Council of Covilhã Creative City in Design by UNESCO. Member of Advisory Board of ATP – Textile and Clothing Association of Portugal. Researcher at FibEnTech (UBI) and CIAUD (UL/FA) Research Units. Principal researcher of several scientific studies and financed projects in partnership with textile and clothing companies. Author and co-author of around 250 scientific articles among book chapters, journals and conferences papers. He supervised several PhD and master's theses in fashion design and textile engineering.

Selma Eduarda Pereira (1983, Lagos-Portugal). Ph.D. in Digital Media Art (since February 2018) from the University of Algarve and Universidade Aberta, with the thesis “Fashion in the Post-Digital Era”. She regularly publishes her scientific work in national and international journals.
She presents her artwork nationally and internationally in countries such as Spain, UK, California (USA), and Italy. She is interested in artistic creation through and over digital media, and their convergence with fashion, textiles (and other tangible materials)

William Cantú é docente no ensino superior e investigador do CEAUL. Leciona na área dos Estudos de Tendências, Inovação e Cultura. Possui um pós-doutoramento pela Universidade de Lisboa na área de Estudos de Tendências; é doutor em Estudos de Cultura pela mesma universidade; possui um Mestrado em Design e Cultura Visual e é licenciado em Design pelo IADE. É membro do Laboratório de Gestão de Tendências e da Cultura/CEAUL e do SDI.Lab/UNIDCOM.
